How We Work
We arrange everything for our travelers. But, on our trips, you do not have to do anything on our schedule.
You can do whatever you want.
Take a break for a day, see a site not on our list, go shopping or beaching, or just relax at a café and people watch.
The only thing we ask is that you join us for drinks at the end of the day so people can share their experiences and get to know each other.

YOU MAKE YOUR AIR AND HOTEL BOOKINGS
We let our travellers book all flights and hotels directly. We give you the name of the hotels and the arrival and departure dates. That way, you can get exactly the flights and the rooms you want (and use miles.)
We give you the flights from Porto to Madeira round-trip to book directly. That way you can get the seats you want. We provide an estimate of the per person cost at the restaurants where we will dine. The price per person includes delicious Portuguese wine. You will see the estimates on the “Price and How We Work” sheet on the website.
WE TAKE CARE OF THE REST
Then, you pay $500 to Cloud9 Travel Tours for the following: River; transportation throughout the trip; local guides; arranging end-of day drinks; arranging tastings, private Sommelier tours and lunches at wineries; booking restaurants only the locals know, cocktails with our friends in Madeira who have relocated from the US; being guided by our own private Sommelier, Sammy; our Sparkling Welcome Party, and our Farewell Lunch (a celebration of Fourth of July early!) at the Golden Gate Café in Madeira.
As a hotel veteran, Sammy contacts the general managers at each hotel to arrange unique experiences and surprises for our group. He sets up our lunches in the vineyards and teaches about wine and food.
Phil brings his experience in leading tours for 10 years. He has led groups to Cuba, Iceland, India, Miami, Dubai, and the Caribbean.
At chosen meals, Sammy will pair the wines with the food. Often, we order a variety of appetizers we think everyone in the group will love (and to make life easier for those in the kitchen), then everyone orders his own entrees, etc.
We put together a Tour Book with full information on our daily schedule, sights, menus of each restaurant, photos and biographies of all travelers, times and places to meet, and recommendations on shopping,
We use group texts to communicate.
But, the secret of what we do is putting together wonderful groups of people. We meet all of our travelers before the trip and ensure they will be a good fit. Our motto: “We choose FABULOUS people to make a FABULOUS TRIP. “

Only you could put that trip together. 14 wonderful new friends, sites that Americans have not been able to visit since the 1960’s, Fidel, Che Guevara, Hemingway’s home and favorite bar, riding in the 1950’s pink cars, the private rooftop restaurant, the charming Cuban people, and my first time on a cruise ship (I loved it!). “Many kudos to you for arranging our group trip to Iceland. What an interesting and unique country! I would probably never have gone if you had not put the group together. I loved the Icelanders you arranged for us to meet. Dancing at midnight while the sun was still up was amazing! The blue, blue warm springs pools were unforgettable. Seeing Bjork’s home. Smoking volcanoes. And finding out the Icelanders have an app to determine if they are too closely related to marry. My favorite thing was making so many new friends.
